Federal authorities expressed that so far there are all indications that Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán remains in central Mexico and has not left the country.

“Practically they told us that it is pretty sure that he remains here," expressed the lawmakers to El UNIVERSAL.

During the report by a part of the security cabinet before the Joint Commission on National Security in Congress, according to the lawmakers, the officials also recognized that there was no control on the blueprints of the maximum security prison of El Altiplano, which was housing "El Chapo" until his escape last week.

“The explanation seems logical. They told us that they were in the hands of the builder from the start, as well as the companies hired by it back and all the directors of the jail until now," expressed a lawmaker.

Yesterday, the commission received the report from the Minister of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong; Attorney General Arely Gómez; National Security Commissioner Alejandro Rubido García; the head of the National Security and Investigation Center, Eugenio Imaz; the head of the National Security Council, Mauricio Melchor Dávila, and the General Commissioner of the Federal Police, Enrique Galindo Cevallos.

The lawmakers said that according to the report, the notion of "El Chapo" escaping using a tunnel seems like the most probable explanation for his disappearance from the jail.
