State of emergency declared after tornado

The National Coordination of Civil Protection of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), issued a declaration of emergency for the municipality of Acuña, which was hit by a tornado.

Segob announced also the activation of the Fund for Emergency Care (FONDEN).

"The authorities of the state government will have resources to meet the nutritional needs, shelter and health of the affected population," indicated Segob.

According to the most recent figures, 13 people died after the tornado impacted the area.

In addition, nearly a thousand homes have been damaged and the electricity supply has been interrupted due to the destruction of power lines and transformers.

Segob indicated that there are eight temporary shelters ready to provide housing for the affected families.

It also pointed out that the injured individuals were transferred to different hospitals for medical care.
