Another nose shape, a different cup size, a more defined body, and a youthful appearance are the desired outcomes of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in Mexico – and the reason why our country has become the third country that gets the most the most plastic surgery in the world.

Knowing plastic surgery procedures can be performed with local anesthesia or through non-invasive procedures that allow for a speedier recovery and achieve a more natural appearance, in addition to a reduction in costs, are reasons enough to lose the fear of changing something about our physical aspect.

Antonio Fuente del Campo, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), claims that in recent years, the number of plastic surgeries has increased in Mexico. “Before, people hesitated because it meant larger injuries and long recovery times;t now all this has changed," he said.

Yet he cautions there are doctors and surgeons out there who don't have the required training, which can bring about disastrous consequences for the patients, such as not obtaining the desired results, or even death.

"These are procedures that require a certain degree of artistry because it's not only chopping here and there, it's giving shape, it's like making a sculpture but with a person."

Being a plastic surgeon isn't all about changing what people are least comfortable with, Fuente clarifies, they also help individuals who need to undergo reconstruction procedures after suffering physical disfigurements, such as facial trauma, third-degree burns, or due to congenital anomalies.

However that may be, these are the most popular plastic surgery procedures in Mexico, depending on average age and gender, according to the doctor:

Young women
-Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty).
-Breast augmentation.
-Liposculpture

Middle-aged women
-Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).
-Breast lift (mastopexy).
-Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
-Neck lift or liposuction.
-Liposculpture.

Young men
-Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty).
-Ear surgery (otoplasty).
-Liposuction

Middle-aged men
-Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).
-Neck lift or liposuction.
-Liposuction.

“Out of 10 'rejuvenating' procedures performed, 9 are on female patients and 1 on male,” points out Fuente, who recommends that people interested in getting a plastic surgery seek a plastic surgeon certified by the Mexican Board of Plastic, Aesthetic, and Reconstructive Surgeons, to avoid falling in the hands of an unskilled doctor.
