Peña Nieto and Angélica Rivera are officially divorced

The former First Lady allegedly demanded 35 luxury vehicles for her and her family and private flights for the next 12 years in order to sign the divorce papers

Former Mexico's President, Enrique Peña Nieto

, announced the end of his marriage of 10 years to soap opera actress Angélica Rivera.

Through his official Instagram account , the former Mexican President announced their divorce was finalized and thanked his now ex-wife “Today out marriage has officially ended, Angélica , thank you for everything.”

He also thanked the actress for being “my companion, wife , and friend” and for “having given your time and dedication to our family .”

The former couple was last seen together o n September 15, 2018 . In January 2019 , Peña Nieto was seen in Madrid along with Mexican model Tania Ruiz Eichelmann .

After the images of the alleged couple went public, Angélica Rivera announced her decision to divorce the former Mexican President and said she was deeply sorry for “this painful situation for me and our children .”

Salvador García Soto

, who collaborates with EL UNIVERSAL , was the first to reveal the couple planned to divorce after the new government took office but at the time, Rivera's daughter denied the claims. More recently, García Soto said that the former First Lady was demanding 35 luxury vehicles for her and her family and private flights for the next 12 years in order to sign the divorce papers .

The journalist claimed the divorce papers were ready before December 1 and that Peña Nieto proceeded with the paperwork once he was seen with Tania Ruíz in Madrid .
