Los Cabos

, in Baja California Sur, is the most violent city in the world, with a homicide rate of 111.33 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to José Antonio Ortega, President of the Citizens' Council for Public Security and Criminal Justice.

Ortega Sánchez presented the study “2017 Ranking of the 50 most violent cities in the world” and added that 5 of the top 10 violent cities can be found in Mexico.

“Violence in Mexico has picked up. In 2015, five Mexican cities were included in the ranking; in 2017, there were 12, the same number than in 2011,” he said.

Out of the 50 cities mentioned in the ranking, 17 are in Brazil, 12 in Mexico , 5 in Venezuela, 4 in the United States, 3 in Colombia, 3 in South Africa, 2 in Honduras, and one in El Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica.
