Mexican athlete Daniela Rodríguez

has given her country its first gold medal in the Poomsae Tae Kwon Do competition at the Central American and Caribbean Games of 2018 .

Poomsae is a variant of the Korean martial art which encompasses attack and defense combinations against several imaginary adversaries. Poomsaes have philosophic connotations in Korean culture and they play a multidimensional role in the improvement of coordination, balance, synchronization, and rhythm.

Rodríguez Morales, who participated at the Lima World Competition of 2016 , won the gold medal with 94 units , leaving her opponent, Puerto Rican Arelis Medina , with 89.1 .
