The “Pasajeros 03” (Passerby 03) exhibition in the Museo Jumex offers a portrait of the multifaceted composer John Cage , who visited Mexico in 1968 and 1976. You can visit the exhibition from July 7 to September 16.
This is the third installment in the series: “Passersby: biographical and documentary-style exhibitions of foreigners” , that shows different artists' journeys through Mexico , artists who had a significant exchange with the country , and who left an important legacy behind.
Gabriel Villalobos, the curator
, says that the exhibition brings the spectator close to the relationships the artist had through his life , and portraying the composer's personality.
The exhibition is arranged on a linear axis : on one hand, there is his 1968 visi t documentation and on the other, his 1976 visit . Also, the different Cage facets are highlighted , not only as a musician but also as a promoter and poet, says the Culture Secretariat.

as one of the most important musicians in the 20th century, John Cage broke with traditional composition schemes by exploring the hierarchy of the tone and questioned the difference between music, noise, and silence , claims the expert.
Along the exhibition, you can appreciate the documentation that shows the i mportant relationships and creative exchanges that the poet, painter, and composer had with several Mexican intellectuals , according to the exhibition's website, Cage “encountered a country during an effervescent period in its thriving creative and social scene”.
You can also appreciate Cage's relationship with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and their arrival to Mexico, as part of a cultural program that included the arrival of dancers, actors and actresses, musicians, and writers.
