Elba Esther, AMLO's Ally?

A long time ago, in 2006, the teacher Elba Esther Gordillo tried to get closer to Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), back when he ran for president for the very first time. She failed. Yet, after the latest elections in the State of Mexico, those close to Mr. Andrés Manuel – especially in recent months – are non others than the former leaders of the National Teacher's Union of Mexico. They have offered him the structure they have in the country to defend the votes of the left National Regeneration Party ( MORENA ) during 2018. Now, the son-in-law of the former union boss, Fernando González, has agreed to organize public meetings and forums for AMLO, according to our sources. Mr. Fernando's attendance to a pre-campaign event in Hidalgo, in addition to other events lead by the Teacher's Union in the same state, leave no room to doubt that, at the very least, the structure they have will serve the purposes of López Obrador for this 2018.

Ruffo won't budge an inch

Little by little is the road being paved for Ricardo Anaya , who is already the aspiring candidate of the coalition between the conservative National Action Party ( PAN ), the left Democratic Revolution Party ( PRD ), and the center-left Citizen's Movement Party ( MC ). He managed to make Luis Ernesto Derbéz and Juan Carlos Romero Hicks back down yet there is still one who won't budge an inch. This one is none other than Baja California Senator Ernesto Ruffo , who claims he might still compete against Anaya. The deadline for Ruffo to make up his mind is January 7 and those close to Mr. Ruffo say an announcement could be made next week.

The Christmas of the candidates

José Antonio Meade

, the aspiring candidate of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party ( PRI ) uploaded yesterday to his social networks a video where he appears next to his wife, Juana Cuevas , where she claims “the best is yet to come.” And even though we're celebrating Christmas today, they closed their video with a “Happy New Year!” For his part, conservative National Action Party (PAN) aspiring candidate, Ricardo Anaya, met with young people while López Obrador still has political activities planned for this Sunday. Meanwhile, Margarita Zavala , independent candidate and former PAN member, uploaded a video where she is seen being given a huge present in a bag. Please, don't think ill of her, it wasn't money, it was just a sign with the number 600,000, which equals to the number of signatures she has already gathered to formalize her independent presidential candidacy. Moreover, in another video, she says that people who wish to give her a present should gift her with their signatures! Thus, the candidates and Christmas .

Doubts regarding the Electoral Prosecutor and Odebrecht

Héctor Díaz-Santana

, head prosecutor of the Specialized Attorney's Office against Electoral Crimes ( FEPADE ) has already set the weights with which he wants to be weighed when he participated in the Senate for the strategic responsibility of the current electoral process, which is to launch unbiased investigations on crimes being denounced. Remember when the High Chamber asked questions regarding the Odebrecht case and how would the FEPADE handle it, Héctor Díaz-Santana, quite certain of himself, said that even when it depended on the Executive Branch, he is allowed to act at the full extent of his capacity, and he added he wouldn't talk about the case on the media, that, instead, he would go directly to court. The Senante says they'll wait and see.
