Electronic commerce in the country is booming. Between 2016 and 2017 e-commerce sales increased by 28.3 percent , and one of the dates that shows the greatest economic impact is Christmas , BlackSip Mexico reported.

The manager of the company in Mexico, Juan Fernando Vélez , said that for online commerce this time of year is the most important due to an increase in demand, which is why companies often offer discounts and promotions. In 2017, 61 percent of expected sales was generated at this time .

The company said in a statement that smartphones play an important role. Last year, two out of three online searches were made through mobile phones, which showed a considerable increase compared with 2016.

In the same year, 11.7 million searches were registered, mostly for the purchase of fashion items, videogames, electronics, toys, and perfumes .

Hence, he advised companies to develop a sales budget and establish clear goals during these dates. "Christmas is the strongest season because purchases are required," he claimed, adding that companies must define their budget and develop a sales plan to decide what will be promoted in stores.

Likewise, companies must reinforce their websites depending on their product demand: "You must estimate how much load the site is going to have and you have to validate the server, the electronic infrastructure is important. If there is not an increase, then the company must invest on new servers, since the website may collapse,” he said.

The manager stressed that the main drivers of e-commerce in Mexico are the holidays, notably Christmas and the Hot Sale (the equivalent of Black Friday) .
