In the last decade, Asian assemblers have positioned themselves as the largest market share in Mexico with the placement of six of the 10 best-selling vehicle brands.

In 2018 alone, Japanese , Korean and Chinese automakers have sold more than 50% of new vehicles in the country.

According to data from the international firm Jato Dynamics in Mexico , the presence of Asian automakers grew 25% , due to the arrival of Hyundai and Kia Motors in 2015 .

Meanwhile, the sum of units sold by Korean and Japanese automotive companies in the first five months of the year added up to 51.3% of total vehicle sales, with Nissan Mexicana being the first place in participation for nine consecutive years.

Regarding the commercialization of vehicles that Asian companies offer in Mexico, the sale of 323,571 units was reported in 2010 with a rising curve to reach 441,240 vehicles in 2013 .

In 2015, the Korean company Kia Motors arrived in Mexico, which resulted in the sale of 637,071 Asian assembly vehicles, while in 2016 and 2017 , the Chinese brands Baic and Jac entered the Mexican market. Their level of sales is still unknown, because they have chosen not to report their figures.

Out of the 10 brands with the highest market share in the country, six are Asian , with Nissan Mexicana leading the way for nine consecutive years with 22.8% participation , while the Japanese Toyota has a 7.7% market share.

For its part, with only three years of presence in Mexico, the Korean automotive company Kia Motors already occupies the fifth place with 6.8%; Honda is in sixth place with 6.5% ; Mazda with 3.9% , and Hyundai obtained the highest participation index, with 3.6% of total sales in the first five months of the year.

According to Jato Dynamics Mexico , the presence of Asians is reflected in the best-selling segments in the country.

Facing the growth of the SUV market , models from Japanese companies Honda and Nissan have been the most sold from January to April of this year, with Honda's CR-V in the lead with 8,870 vehicles ; followed by Kicks from Nissan with 6,895 and HR-V from Honda with 6,713 units.

Kia Motors Mexico

managed to reach the fourth place of the market segment with sales of 6,705 Sportage models , followed by Nissan’s X-Trail , with 5,541 units , while CX-3 and CX-5 models by Mazda were located on the seventh and eighth place in the index.

Among the best-selling sedans , the first place is for Nissan Versa with 29,398 units , a brand that also placed Sentra in the "Top 10" in fifth place with 11,952 vehicles ; the Rio by Kia was placed in that category in the seventh position with 5,628 units and Toyota put Yaris in the ninth position with 5,847 vehicles .
