, president and chief council of INE’s board in Tabasco , along with Roberto Félix López , executive secretary of the Electoral and Civic Participation Institute of Tabasco , have reported the theft of almost 11,000 electoral ballots which were to be used for local and federal elections (including Mexico’s presidential election ) on July 1 .
Esparza Cornejo explained that the theft occurred near the town of San Carlos, in Macuspana . Two packages for the federal election containing 723 ballots each , which were to be used for the presidential election as well as the election of federal senators and congressmen, were stolen, along with three packages for local elections, which also contained 723 ballots each for district governor elections, as well as municipal president and local deputies elections.
The polling officials offered a press conference this evening, explaining that the corresponding legal suit had already been filed before the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Electoral Offenses (FEPADE) . They claimed that all the ballots were to be reprinted by Talleres Gráficos de México (Graphical Workshops of Mexico) before July 1 , stressing that every single citizen in Tabasco would have the right to vote.
