Tourism revenue in Mexico City generated by both international and Mexican tourists totaled 3.171 billion dollars over the first three quarters of 2016, which is a 17.9% increase compared to the same period in 2015, according to a press statement released by Mexico's Ministry of Tourism.

A total of 9.8 million tourists have visited Mexico's capital through September.

Miguel Torruco Marqués, the Tourism Minister, said that the country with the highest number of visitors was the United States, with 1.083 million visitors, followed by Colombia, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Peru, France, Germany and Guatemala.

Over 1.165 million formal jobs related to the tourism sector were registered for Mexico City, which is a 4.3% increase compared to the prior year.

Torruco Marqués said that these results are thanks to several initiatives implemented by Mexico City's government aimed at promoting both internal and foreign tourism.

In addition, between January 2013 and September 2016, the private sector has invested nearly 4.5 billion dollars in the local economy in hotels, restaurants and transportation.
