With more than 20 activities planned over nine days, Mexico City gets ready to launch the first edition of the Mexico Bicycle Week 2016, for which local government and sponsors have invested approximately 150,000 dollars in the event.

In an exclusive interview with Notimex, the event's organizer, Carlos Vignon, said that the funds will be used for the event's infrastructure, logistics, personnel and awards that will be presented to contestants between October 15 and 23 in Mexico City.

The different activities will be held in different locations throughout the city and participants can enjoy all kinds of activities related to cycling education, road culture, competitions, exhibits and world records.

The event's organizer said that Mexico Bicycle Week 2016 was made possible thanks in part to the huge success over the last 7 years of bicycle expo in Mexico City, the biggest in Latin America.

He also said that this event has a cause, since together with the “Pon a Rodear Mis Sueños” Foundation, they will hold an auction in benefit of children from low-income communities in the states of Hidalgo and Oaxaca.

“We're working with 40 artists from a gallery in the Colonia Roma neighborhood who designed and donated 40 bikes for the Monk brand, which will be exhibited in Plaza Loreto. On October 19 they will be auctioned off, the funds will be used to boy around 200 bikes that will be donated to children in different rurual communities in Hidalgo and Oaxaca.”

Vignon also said they will be activities for the entire family where both kids and adults can learn how to ride bicycles or perfect their bike-riding habits.

“There will even be a nighttime criterium around the city's main squre, the Zocalo, on October 22 at 9:00 pm.”

“60% of the activities will be free, and a few will have a small inscription fee to cover certain costs,” he said.
