The fights between groups and political rivalries and the calls for grants for public works and artisans could be the motivations behind the killing of the mayor of San Juan Chamula, Domingo López González, and four other officers, according to the authorities.

The Attorney General of the state of Chiapas, Raciel López Salazar, said that the authorities are investigating the incident.

So far, he said, there are no reasons to suspect the involvement of institutions or political parties and all the people involved in the killing have been fully identified.
