The presumed murderer of 13-year-old María Fernanda Vargas Sánchez, who was beaten, sexually assaulted and injured with an icepick, has been arrested according to the Attorney General and the Justice Department of Quintana Roo.
Luis Enrique Meza Calderón, a married individual of 27 years of age, was arrested seven months after the crime he committed presumably under the effects of drugs, according to the authorities.
He was born in Cancún and lived in the same area as his victim. After killing the teenager, he moved to another neighborhood and later fled to Mérida, Yucatán, and ended in Acapulco, Guerrero, where he has relatives.
The authorities requested the aid of the government of Guerrero in his arrest.
Meza Calderón, known as "El Peke," was arrested last night and taken to Cancún on Sunday.
The announcement of the arrest was done by the governor of Quintana Roo, Roberto Borge Angulo, and Attorney General Arturo Alvarez.
Meanwhile, a woman was reportedly stabbed in the area of Playa del Carmen, in the municipality of Solidaridad.
The victim was identified as 32-year-old María del Rosario May de Ovando, who was killed between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m. last Thursday.
The body was discovered at 9:00 a.m. Friday and presented more than 10 stab wounds in the back and the neck. The corpse was covered by a blanket.
The authorities suspect of a man identified only as Miguel Angel, according to reports.
The crime occurs in the middle of a series of recent female murders in Cancún since last October.
