The national leaders of the Labor Party (PT) will meet next Wednesday to discuss a possible merger with the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD).
PT legislator Ricardo Cantú said that the proposal made by Carlos Navarrete, chairman of the PRD, will be discussed in the meeting.
He added that the two parties will seek to form alliances for the 2016 and 2018 elections regardless of a possible merger.
In the 2014-2015 elections the PT obtained less than 3 percent of the total votes, so it is at risk of losing its registration as a national political party. A decision must be made before August 23, when the Electoral Court of the Federal Judicial Power (TEPJF) will resolve the challenges to the latest electoral process.
