5,000 complaints were filed last year for abuses at the 49 Mexican customs

Between January 2014 and June this year, Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) fired 100 foreign trade officials who engaged in corruption.

Between January 2014 and June this year, Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) fired 100 foreign trade officials who engaged in corruption.

In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL Ricardo Treviño, head of the General Customs Administration, explained that about 5,000 complaints were filed last year for abuses, malpractices and discretion of public servants at the 49 customs that exist in Mexico.

Treviño explained that last year 180 public servants of the SAT were penalized or prosecuted for irregularities, and added that 73 of them were fired as customs officials.

So far in 2015, 27 customs officials have been fired for breach of trust.

Treviño said that complaints can be filed via e-mail (denuncias@sat.gob.mx) or through the red phones located at each customs office.
