Exhibidos en vitrinas grandes y pequeñas, los miles de objetos nos trasladan hasta la antigüedad de Egipto, Grecia, Roma y el mundo anglosajón, así como a las culturas que han florecido en Asia, África, Oceanía y América. De Mesoamérica hay cerca de 560 objetos, entre piezas de piedra, figuras de barro y cerámica. Destaca el Códice Fejervary Mayer, de origen mixteco hecho sobre piel de venado y con más de 800 años de antigüedad. Sus 23 hojas dobles, plegadas en forma de biombo o acordeón, ilustran la cuenta calendárica o adivinatoria de 260 días y algunos elementos religiosos, como los cuatro rumbos del universo.
