Scientific production in Mexico increased 23% due to the support of the National Consortium of Scientific and Technological Information Resources (Consorcio Nacional de Recursos de Información Científica y Tecnologíca abbreviated Conricyt). According to a study by SCImago Research Group, the consortium has played a fundamental role to increase the quantity and quality of scientific articles in Mexico.

At the "Entre Pares" (“Among Pairs”) event, which took place on September 4 and 5 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Félix de Moya Anegón, SCImago's Director, highlighted that in 2010 Mexico generated 16,327 scientific articles, compared with 21,310 articles published in 2015 indicating a 23% increase.

In addition to the number of scientific articles published, Mexico improved in quality as well, having a normalized impact of 0.74 in 2010 compared with the impact in 2015 of 0.82, representing an 8% increase since the creation of the Conricyt.

Mexico's Ministry of Public Education (Secretaría de Educación Pública abbreviated SEP), the National Council of Science and Technology (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología abbreviated CONACYT), the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (Asociación Nacional de Universidades e Instituciones de Educación Superior abbreviated ANUIES), the Autonomous Metropolitan University (Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana abbreviated UAM) and National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico abbreviated UNAM) are some of the founding institutions of the Conricyt.
