Carlos Treviño, General Director of Mexican State oil company PEMEX, disclosed that 27 land-based fields will be tendered and grouped into seven oil and gas blocks during 2018, being the country’s eighth tender since a landmark energy opening was finalized in 2014.

During the 2018 Mexico Energy forum, Carlos Treviño said that with these alliances PEMEX will increase its production and exploration in the southern region of the country.

Carlos Treviño highlighted that these oil and gas blocks―not farmouts―reach more than 391 million oil barrels located in Tabasco and Veracruz.

Pemex's General Director stressed that the oil company maintains its production expectations higher than 2017, amounting the production to over 1,000,950 barrels per day (bpd).

Currently, the production stands at 500,00 bpd, yet it will reach 900,000 bpd in the second quarter of the year.

Treviño disclosed that Ciudad Madero refinery in Tamaulipas will return to its usual production levels by March. Maintenance works at the refinery were necessary to reach the expected production ranges for this year.
