Pedro Friedeberg’s “Finest Mural” pays homage to Corona and Mexico

, the finest beer, will offer Mexicans an exquisite work of art made by surrealist artist Pedro Friedeberg .

The art piece is a mural that shows part of Mexico’s identity and growth, portraying the way that our culture and identity go beyond borders with the unique and peculiar style of the Mexican artist.

The mural clearly describes the constant work and motivation that lives within the Mexican spirit and Corona to promote unity for the country’s development. Through the mural, Pedro Friedeberg sought to portray a shared history of progress and quality through four episodes.

The Mexican surrealist has gained world recognition for some iconic art pieces such as the peculiar hand-chair that is also featured in Corona’s advertising campaign, along with famous actor Gael García Bernal .

The artist’s work was made with advanced perspective techniques, graphite outlines on paper, and repetition. It will have a replica that will be hung on a wall of the Grupo Modelo factory in Mexico City , where the first Corona beer was produced.

An artistic interpretation

The mural is divided into four sections representing four different periods of progress shared by Corona and Mexico since 1925 . Friedeberg decided to portray this timeline by simulating a square space, with each quadrant representing a narrative of said historic episodes.

The first quadrant represents the birth of Corona and shows how bread transforms into bear, as well as the iconic transparent bottle design. On the other side, there is a representation of some icons from Mexico’s Golden Age of Cinema and the Corona Caravan, which took culture and beer to each region in the country.

Another quadrant represents a period of economic crisis during which the company began exporting beer abroad.

The last quadrant shows how Mexicans have learned to turn obstacles into opportunities, overcoming both physical and mental obstacles.

“El Mural Más Fino” (The Finest Mural)

will be available for all Mexicans to see at Grupo Modelo’s Lago Alberto plant , in the heart of Mexico City.
