This year, Mexico City received the World Design Capital (WDC) title becoming the sixth in the world to receive this acknowledgment and the very first city from the Americas.

“Mexico City has a powerful story to share on the world stage, as a model for other megacities around the world using design to tackle the challenges of urbanization and ensure a more liveable city,” reads WDC website.

Mexico City was chosen as it is continuously seeking to transform lives through design by regenerating low-income areas around the city through a series of health, communications, and security programs such as the bike-sharing project and the development of urban gardens, parks, and playgrounds.

The WDC is a city promotion project by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) to recognize and award design accomplishments made by cities around the world.
