The Core Molding Technologies maquila company in Mexico has been offering accommodation, food, and many other job benefits to migrants deported from the United States .

The program, which was implemented by the company in late December , has already employed 45 migrants , including two Central Americans.

Ubaldo Lara Limón, the company’s human resources manager

, commented that they had had 70 job positions open as of December, since some workers decided to start working in other cities in Tamaulipas, and a few others had returned to their states of origin.

He commented that they decided to offer jobs to Mexicans who had just been deported from the United States, since they were highly qualified, hardworking people in need of an opportunity.

“We have had such good results that we are now hiring more people. As for Central Americans, the National Migration Institute (INM) allows us to hire migrants with work permits, though Mexicans are our priority.

Offering full support

Lara Limón pointed out that the maquila company had a staff of 1,100 workers , and that most deported Mexicans were from the states of Zacatecas, Puebla, Guerrero, and Chiapas .

“They’re making MXN$1,457 a week , and during the first month, we pay for their accommodations in a hotel, after which they are given a financial aid of MXN$1,500 so that they can rent an apartment or a house to live in. Some people have even offered their homes to accommodate the deported migrants,” he said.

“They are living near the plant. We have some good public transport routes so that they have no trouble getting to their workplace and we give them food so that they can save money to help their families,” he added.

Some workers in Matamoros who are without a family have chosen to live with other single migrants to reduce rent costs, which allows them to save money and send it to their places of origin.

“Many of them had been living in the U.S. for up to 20 years and have no legal documents, which is why the municipality’s economic development department has helped us with the paperwork,” the manager commented.
