With the purpose of uniting Mexicans during the electoral period, Diego Luna , along with other celebrities such as Alejandro González Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón, and Guillermo Del Toro , have created “El día después” (The Day After) initiative.

This morning, Luna stated that his proposal seeks to invite the citizens of Mexico to stay united, regardless of who they plan on voting for on July 1 .

At a press conference, the actor and spokesman of the initiative said that the citizenship’s participation is very important and absolutely necessary, which is why he has invited Mexicans to step up and exercise their right to vote in a peaceful way, without attempting to disqualify those with different political views. He stressed that the electoral process should be without violence.

“People should vote for whoever they want, but they must realize that it’s for the common good . Vote for whoever you want, but understand that the election is only a part of the democratic process,” said Luna.

Diego explained that, throughout the next few days, the organization will launch small clips inviting citizens to act as responsible and participative Mexicans.

Furthermore, he revealed that they will be launching a small documentary before the election to explain the purpose of “The Day After,” a film in which several Mexican celebrities have participated, including Lydia Camacho and Diego Luna himself.

With this initiative, Luna presented a twelve-point manifesto which emphasizes on the non-violent and non-discriminative participation of voters.

He added that whoever wished to join this project could do so through social media and the project’s official website, in which they’ll be able to sign and commit with the manifesto.
