The Venezuelan National Constituent Assembly (ANC), an organ comprised only of representatives allied to the government of President Nicolás Maduro, was opened today in the Federal Legislative Palace of Caracas, despite the rejection of the opposition and a large part of the international community.

Senior leaders of the ruling Chavism in Venezuela since 1999 led the long line of representatives who entered the Legislative Palace where the opposition Parliament operates for this event.

Former Foreign Minister and a close ally of Maduro, Delcy Rodríguez, was elected president of the assembly.
