Mexico's Tax Administration Service intercepted a historic amount of 450 million dollars at the Customs Office in Toluca, as part of a joint effort with the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The agency reports that it coordinated efforts and carried out the so-called Operation Chimera, which is aimed at intercepting and fighting the illegal arms trade, as well as intercepting all kinds of foreign currencies and illegal items.

The operation involves inspecting air cargo, passengers, imports and exports and the implementation of a new customs strategy that takes into account the level of traffic, how thorough inspections are and the use of non-intrusive inspection equipment for specific merchandise.

The WCO said that Mexico is one of the countries with the most activities during Operation Chimera in terms of seizures reported in the platform. This, they say, will help guarantee national security and fight crime.
