Protesters in Spain hold demonstration against same-sex marriage bill in Mexico

The demonstration against same-sex marriage organized by Hazteoir.org managed to gather a mere 15 people this Friday. Hazteoir.org, which has ties with Spain's far-right party, organized the demonstration in front of the Mexican embassy “as a show of solidarity with Mexican families.”

The speaker at the event, Pablo Santana, delivered 168,000 signatures it received from all over the world to Israel Quiñones, multilateral affairs adviser to the Mexican embassy, demanding that the Mexican government withdraw the pro-same-sex marriage bill proposed by President Peña Nieto. Santana told the embassy adviser that “the president must represent the will of the people.”

Santana admitted that most of the signatures are from Mexico and were obtained using the CitizenGo platform, Hazteoir's international branch. However, all of the protestors at the demonstration were Spanish.

“We're here to show our support to the families in Mexico that are demonstrating their courage by protesting international interest groups,” said Inma, a mother of four who works part-time for Hazteoir.” She continued “the pressure that these courageous people face when protesting is enormous, but the natural family movement is growing around the world, such as in France, where the homosexual interest group Homovox is even against adoption by same-sex couples. Even they understand that children need both a mother and a father.”

According to Hazteoir, the pro-family demonstration in Madrid was joined by simultaneous demonstrations in Washington, Paris, Rome, Budapest, Brasilia, Quito and Bogota.
