African runners dominated the 33rd edition of the International Mexico City Marathon. Daniel Aschenik and Sherwarge Amara Alene won the first place in the male and female divisions.

Aschenik, from Ethiopia, crossed the finish line with a time of 2:19.03 hours, while Amara's time, also from Ethiopia, was 2:41.09 hours.

The marathon began at the Juárez Hemicycle and culminated at the University Olympic Stadium.

The first places won 450,000 pesos (US$26,860), the second 200,000 (US$11,937) and the third 150,000 (US$8,953).

Mexico City Sports Institute said that 30,000 runners participated in the event.
