The gang members known as "tequileros" kidnapped about a dozen Totolapan inhabitants who they apparently suspect of supporting rivals
The head prosecutor of Jalisco state said that they apparently were members of a gang and came from nearby communities.
Jalisco state prosecutor said Monday that local, state and federal authorities, including marines and soldiers, joined in the operation while investigators reviewed surveillance camera footage for clues.
Jalisco state prosecutor Eduardo Almaguer said at a news conference that preliminary results of the investigation indicated that all involved - kidnappers and kidnapped - were members of criminal organizations.
Prosecutors say passenger buses with no paying passengers moved drugs from Puebla, Mexico, directly to the Atlanta area.
The gang has more than 30,000 members internationally - mainly in El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala - and over 6,000 members in the U.S.
The victims have not yet been identified and their bodies have not yet been found.
