Mexico's government, through its Foreign Affairs Ministry, has formally requested England's authorities to arrest Karime Macías, Javier Duarte's wife, and later extradite her to Mexico.

During a meeting with legislators from the Justice Commission in Congress, the head of the PGR, Alberto Elías Beltrán, said that the Foreign Affairs Ministry (SRE), requested the diplomatic proceeding this month.

Elías Beltrán said that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) has an open investigation against Macías, who lives in London.

A judge from Xalapa, Veracruz, has issued an arrest warrant against Veracruz's former First Lady, for the alleged diversion of over MXN $100,000 million, when she led the System for Wholesome Development of Family (DIF) in Veracruz.

In May 2018, the Interpol issued a red notice to locate and arrest Karime Macías Tubilla, therefore, she is wanted in over 190 countries.

Weeks ago, the Assistant Attorney General for Financial Crimes explained that they haven't proceeded against Karime Macías because the Finance and Public Credit Ministry (SHCP) hadn't filed any lawsuit against her.
