The last show of “En Familia con Chabelo” was aired today on Televisa's Channel 2.

Emilio Azcárraga Jean, CEO of Televisa, attended the show and thanked Xavier López Rodríguez for his 47 years of service.

“I feel honored to be next to such an important character in the history of TV,” Azcárraga said to Chabelo, as the host is better known, to which López replied: “Thank you, Emilio, thank you very much”.

Azcárraga added that the doors of Televisa were always open to him and that the audience may want to see him in another show soon, to which Chabelo's fans replied: "Let him stay!"

President Enrique Peña Nieto sent a letter to Chabelo in which he wrote: “An emblematic period in the history of Mexican TV comes to an end with the conclusion of 'En Familia'. You were an icon that brought fun and entertainment to Mexican families for over 47 years. I acknowledge your professionalism, commitment to family values and passion for bringing joy to children. I am sure that Chabelo will persist in the memory and heart of several generations. On behalf of my family and myself, I congratulate you for your tireless work.”

Chabelo said goodbye to his fans by thanking them for everything: “When a man can do what he likes, he is a fortunate man. And I am a fortunate man. From the bottom of my heart: thank you very much.”

Juan Ramón Nava, a singer from Michoacán better known as “El primo”, composed a corrido for Chabelo to pay homage to his career.
