Mexico's Official Gazette published a decree creating the Ministry of Culture after the announcement made yesterday by President Enrique Peña Nieto.
The decree states that all the guidelines issued by the National Council for Culture and Arts (Conaculta) will remain in place until the Ministry of Culture determines their modification or abrogation. All the assets of Conaculta will be transferred to the new ministry.
The Ministry of Culture will be in charge of establishing and implementing the national cultural policy with the participation of the corresponding agencies of the Federal Government. It will also preserve, protect and maintain Mexico's archaeological, historical and artistic monuments, among other responsibilities.
