Twelve departments of the National Autonomous University of Mexico ( UNAM ) are in the top fifty in the world, ahead of the University of São Paulo ( USP ) which has ten departments in the list, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile ( UC ) with nine, and the University of Buenos Aires ( UBA ) with four, according to the eighth edition of the , published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds , a British company specializing in education.

UNAM ranked the highest in Art & Design at the 22nd place and Mineral & Mining Engineering at the 22nd place as well.

UNAM ranks in the top thirty globally in Modern Languages at the 23rd place and Sociology at the 27th .

Overall, UNAM was evaluated in 37 subjects, occupying almost half of the 79 places in which Mexican universities ranked on the list.

Internationally, Harvard University dominates the results, ranking first in 14 areas, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT ) ranking first in 12 areas.
