According to a 2019 University Ranking issued by the international qualifier Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the best universities of Mexico are: the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM), the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM), and the Ibero-American University.

“Both UNAM and ITESM obtained high scores on all indicators of this year’s ranking, due to their academic reputation,” claimed the company.

Mexico accounts for two of the 200 best universities in the world. According to the QS qualifier, UNAM is in the 113th position, while the Monterrey Institute of Technology ranks 178th worldwide.

In 2012, the National Autonomous University of Mexico was in the 146th position worldwide, downgrading to the 175th spot in 2015. However, in only four years time, it has climbed up 62 positions.

UNAM is the largest education institution in Latin America, and in 2005, it was considered to be the best in the region. If one takes into account their high school system, it has over 269 thousand students, which makes it one of the largest universities in the world,” claimed QS.

“UNAM is the only university in Mexico that has three Nobel Prize winners: Alfonso García Robles (Nobel Peace Prize), Octavio Paz (Literature), and Mario Molina (Chemistry). On the other hand, the Monterrey Institute of Technology has climbed up 128 positions since 2012, and ranked 40 in student employability in 2017, since 94% of their students had a job one year after graduating.”

The ranking published by QS also included the Autonomous Technology Institute of Mexico (ITAM), the University of Guadalajara (UdG), the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), the University of the Americas in Puebla (UDLA), and the Anáhuac University.

The regional ranking is focused on five basic criteria: The impact and productivity of their investigations, the commitment of teachers, graduate employability, Internet impact, and internationalization.
