Uber claims to have invested over $500 million in Mexico since it began operating in the country in 2013.

The figure includes mobility funds, socially responsible project, and other unspecified expenses.

As Uber battles new regulations in Europe, new competition in Asia and the U.S, Mexico represents a huge opportunity to establish itself as the market's leader. Mexico is Uber's fourth-biggest consumer, just behind the U.S., Brazil, and India.

But Uber is still facing competition in Mexico , where the Chinese company, Didi Chuxing Technology Co. has started operations in Toluca , and has announced that will expand its operations to other cities.

The Mexican Uber branch has announced that it will remodel their Mexican support centers and will also add the option of tipping the drivers.

On Tuesday, Federico Romero, general manager of the Mexican branch , told Reuters that the company operates in 21 out of the 32 states, as some states have regulations that are unfavorable for the company. The states where Uber is planning to expand are Veracruz , Durango , Tamaulipas , and Hidalgo .
