Avocado is the main ingredient for the elaboration of guacamole, the quintessential dip for any die-hard Super Bowl viewer. Roughly 3,600,000 kg of guacamole are consumed during the sporting event that stands as the most watched in the United States.

Therefore, Michoacán avocado sales are expected to increase at least 20% according to Jaime Rodríguez López, Michoacán delegate of Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Feeding (Sagarpa).

In an interview, Jaime Rodríguez López said that 83,000 tons of avocado were exported in 2017 while this year avocado exports will reach 100,000 tons on average resulting in an economic income of more than three billion Mexican pesos, a historical record.

It should be noted that even though the figure has been confirmed, avocado exports are expected to increase.

Currently, avocado is being exported to the United States at MXN$30 per kilo.

Super Bowl LII will be contested by the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, next Sunday, February 4, at the U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
