Karime Macías Tubilla

, wife of former governor of Veracruz Javier Duarte de Ochoa , demanded to know what she is being charged with and on what grounds a federal judge issued an arrest warrant against her.

During a judicial review called by Macías Tubilla before the First Tribunal Court on Administrative Matters in Mexico City , the fugitive requested a copy of the arrest warrant against her for her probable responsibility in the crime of fraud, as well as audio and video files of the audience in which the Attorney General requested the issuance of said document.

The appeal was presented by Macías Tubilla against the ruling of the Sixth Judge in Administrative Matters in Mexico City, who claimed incompetence to hear and resolve the “amparo” trial, arguing that he could not issue a ruling since the wife of former governor Javier Duarte could not be apprehended.

Upon issuing the legal remedy, the Sixth Judge did not send the arrest warrant nor the compact disk containing the recording of the audience during which the warrant was issued, which is why the collegiate court requested their issuance so as to give a copy to the complainer.

“The Sixth Judge in Administrative Matters in Mexico City is required to deliver a certified copy of the criminal case 150/2018 immediately , as well as the compact disk containing video material from the courtroom,” stated the agreement issued by the collegiate court.

Since last year, more than 190 countries have issued arrest warrants against Karime Macías Tubilla so that she may be put at the disposition of a judge in Veracruz. She has been accused of embezzling MXN$112 million from the National System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) in Veracruz during her husband’s administration.

Given that Macías Tubilla was last seen in London, the Attorney General of the Republic formally requested the government of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland to arrest the suspect for extradition. In turn, the politician’s ex-wife decided to request political asylum on the grounds of political persecution. Her request is still being reviewed by British authorities.
