International University Book Fair begins today!

The National Autonomous University of Mexico ( UNAM ) was founded, in its modern form, on 22 September 1910 by Justo Sierra . It has played a major role in the history and formation of Mexico. This public, autonomous and lay institution’s fundamental tasks are teaching, research and culture dissemination.

UNAM will be the meeting venue of a book fair that is completely targeted to university editions.

The 2017 International University Book Fair ( Feria Internacional del Libro Universitario or FILUNI ) has a cultural and artistic proposal, even though it is aiming to be a space to promote editorial novelties of academic centers. FILUNI 2017 is inaugurated today in the Exhibition and Congress Centre UNAM .

From August 22 to August 27 , the Exhibition and Congress Centre UNAM with a perimeter for exhibitions of 4,000 square meters ( 43,056 square foot ) will be the meeting venue of this book fair with more than 200 academic and artistic activities , and gathering more than 150 universities , including a special program organized by the University of Salamanca as a guest of honor.

The total condemnation of the attacks in Barcelona , a call for solidarity and a demand to get out of obscurantism permeated the inauguration of FILUNI 2017.

Several of the literary events such as Elena Poniatowska 's main conference, the discussion on hard-boiled fiction lead by Élmer Mendoza , Eduardo A ntonio Parra , Paco Ignacio Taibo II , I gnacio Padilla 's homage and the symposium on Juan Rulfo 's centenary, will be transmitted by EL UNIVERSAL in http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/cultura .

Supported by institutions such as the National College ( Colegio Nacional ) and the Mexican Academy of Language ( Academia Mexicana de la Lengua ), FILUNI 2017 will feature discussions lead by Pablo Rudomin , Ranulfo Romo , and Carlos Gershenson on artificial versus natural intelligence, lectures by Eduardo Matos and Luis Millones on human sacrifices in The Andes and Mesoamerica, and conferences by Concepción Company Company and Virginia Bertolotti on language, technology, and communication.

FILUNI 2017 will show university publishing production from Argentina , Brasil , Chile , China , Costa Rica , the United States , Honduras , Peru and Mexico in the Exhibition and Congress Centre UNAM (Avenida del Imán 10, Ciudad Universitaria).
