.- Mexico ’s folklore, color, passion, and joy will shine brightly through the famous Flower Bed at the Grand Place in Brussels, a monumental show that takes place every two years at the “ most beautiful square in the world ”, and has now chosen Guanajuato as a guest of honor.

From 16 to 19 August, 2018 , the famous flower bed will be laid under the banner of Guanajuato, a Mexican region with a particularly rich floricultural tradition. On the occasion of the Grand-Place ’s 20th anniversary as one of UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage sites , visitors will be able to enjoy the massive flower exposition on the famous square.

The Flower Bed will be 75 meters long , 24 meters wide (246 x 79 ft) , it will have 1,800 square meters (19,375 square feet) of begonias and around 300 flowers per square meter ! A team of over a hundred gardeners will assemble the flower bed in only 4 hours .

“This year we will be celebrating the square’s 20th anniversary as a Heritage site. We wanted to celebrate the occasion more splendidly than usual, which is why we chose Mexico , because of its colors and culture,” explained Annette Katz , in charge of the Tapis de Fleurs de Bruxelles association. “This will be the first Latin-American flower bed in Belgian soil; a dream come true for our craftspeople,” she added.

The flower bed was designed by Ana Rosa Aguilar, also known as Roo. It features symbols, natural elements, and decorative forms from central Mexico, as well as a typical bird symbol from the Otomi culture.
