AMLO & Anaya fight over paternity claim

All the way from social networks, supporters of the conservative National Action Party (PAN) and the left National Regeneration Party (MORENA) are fighting over who conceived the proposal to reduce the VAT in the border region of the country. This, of course, after the presidential candidate of the For Mexico to the Front coalition, Ricardo Anaya , announced last Friday that, if elected President, he would reduce the tax in the border. Immediately, several MORENA supporters sprang to the defense of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) , claiming he had proposed the same thing one week before Anaya. This, of course, angered the PAN members, who informed MORENA that the proposal was conceived in 2013 by the PAN when the tax reform bill was proposed but this measure was ultimately rejected. So..who's the father?

Meade's reasons

One of the reasons why José Antonio Meade launched his campaign in Mérida, Yucatán, according to our sources, is because it's the only state – according to the predictions of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) – with real possibilities of keeping a PRI governor. In addition to the work of the PRI in the state, we're told the flight of PAN members to the MORENA party has increased the chances of the PRI's candidate, Mauricio Sahuí , of being elected Yucatan's Governor. Our sources say Mr. Mauricio is topping the polls, a situation many other PRI candidates running for Governor cannot brag about.

No more Puente cases

The coordinator of the conservative National Action Party (PAN) in the Senate, Fernando Herrera, has given the instruction to his anti-corruption team to avoid a repeat of the case of the former commissioner of the National Institute for Transparency, Access to Information and Personal Data Protection (INAI), Ximena Puente , who left the Institute to become a candidate of the center-right Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to a plurinominal position as federal deputy. We're told that Herrera has asked Senator Marcela Torres to be very meticulous with the profiles of the candidates to INAI commissioners. Mr. Fernando requested the legislators to keep investigating and reviewing the profiles of the candidates in order to ensure the autonomy of the Institute. Given that this is the organization in charge of ensuring transparency at a national level.

Oaxaca-Coast highway, secured

The place where people cannot finish believing the news is Oaxaca . Our sources say there is an unbridled enthusiasm over the announcement of the continuation of the highway connecting Oaxaca with the coast – which was suspended for eight years, as if the state didn't need the benefits this work is expected to bring. Once the highway is completed, they say, it will shorten the travel time from the capital of the state to Puerto Escondido from 6 hours to 2 hours and 30 minutes. The best part of the news is that in previous days, the Minister of Communication and Transports, Gerardo Ruiz , confirmed that the work, to be completed in 15 to 20 months – with an estimated cost of MXN$6.5 billion with a federal funding – are secured regardless of how is elected President of the Mexican Republic. No small feat after all the political quarrels over the construction of the new Mexico City airport.
