Alexa Moreno

has made history as the first Mexican woman to win a medal and climb to the podium in a World Artistic Gymnastics Championship .

In the tournament held in Doha, Qatar , Moreno won the bronze medal in the jump final, after signing a card of 14,508 points , below the American Simone Biles, who won the gold with 15,366 points and the Canadian Shallon Olsen, with silver and a score of 14,516 .

Moreno scored seventh in past World Cups , such as Tokyo 2011, Nanning 2014 and Glasgow 2015 ; so this medal confirms her progress as an athlete.

The 24-year-old gymnast joined Daniel Corral as the only Mexicans to obtain a medal in a Gymnastics World Championship; although Corral obtained silver in the modality of horse with pits in Antwerp 2013 .

The south Californian woman medalist was subject to criticism during the Olympic Games of Rio de Janeiro 2016, due to her physical appearance.

"I had too much attention for a moment and it was something quite new for me, but I was very happy to know that there are so many people who were supporting and defending me," she said in 2016.

After this award, Alexa Moreno plans to represent Mexico in the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020 and try to settle in the elite of the World Gymnastics.
