We Interrupt this Normally Scheduled CCC Programming with Breaking News From @BonhamsMotoring. . . There have been numerous police reports that a podium placing 1958 Porsche 550A Spyder a.k.a. as the ‘Giant Killer’ has escaped after many years in captivity. He was last spotted near Scottsdale, AZ. The ‘Giant Killer’ is reportedly armed and dangerous with a 1.5-liter, four-cam, flat-four engine that has been known to punch well above its weight. Other unique identifying features include racing podium placements at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Nurburgring 1000 Kilometer. Luckily, no facial composite sketch is required for this one, as we have numerous images and video of the perp. Being one of 40 of his kind and the only one to ever complete a Grand Prix, he should be easy to spot. He’s has also been described as the best original examples in existence. Porsche 993 GT1 (1996) .. The GT1 class in endurance racing spawned some of the fastest and most radical road-going cars ever made. Cars like the Ferrari F40 and the McLaren F1 are prime examples and to keep pace with these super racers, Porsche enlisted Norbert Singer, an engineer who had been involved in every Porsche win at Le Mans. He was tasked with the development of a 911 which could keep pace with the then dominant McLaren F1. Singer had the clever idea of designing the racing car first and having the road-going derivative based on it later unlike the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220 or Ferrari F40 who had designed their road cars first and then adapted them to racing cars. Singer and his team decided on a mid-engined format which would be more competitive that a rear-engine one. They started with the front-end of a Porsche 993 GT2, designed a new tubular frame and moved the engine to the middle, just behind the driver For power, Porsche used the twin-turbo flat-six 3.6lt water-cooled engine that pushed out a massive 600hp at 7.200 rpm and was paired to a six-speed gearbox. All of this ferocity was transferred to the rear wheels and weighing only 1050 kg, the 911 GT1 was able to hit a top speed of approximately 200mph and could do the sprint from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds. Interestingly, these performance figures were slower than the McLaren F1 but in true Porsche fashion, the Porsche 911 GT1 would prove to be a winner and other manufacturers copied that template while building their own racers in the subsequent years. .. .. @the_collection1 @broadoak_international .. . #tbt to a #Porsche #GT1 #Straßenversion we #porschegt1strassenversion #PorscheGT1 #porsche #porsche911 #porsche997 #porschegt3 #911gt3 #911gt3rs #997gt3 #997gt3rs #guardsred #porscheclub #savethemanuals #livefast #carwithoutlimits #racecar #trackaddict #tracktool #ptsrs #porschelife #911legendsneverdie #rs #porscheoutlaw #vipergreen #nordschleife #nürburgring #weissachgt3rs
