Various big multinational business groups were victims of a cyber attack coordinated in Western Europe, reported the affected companies.

The attack, which started against companies and public services in Ukraine and Russia, moved to the west where it harmed, among others, the Danish shipping company Maersk, the British advertising agency WPP and the French construction materials company Saint Gobain.

“Most of our IT systems were disrupted due to a virus attack. We are evaluating the situation, for our top priority is the security of our operations,” said to AFP Maersk's spokesperson, Concepción Boo Arias.

For its part, Saint Gobain confirmed to AFP: “we were struck by a cyber attack. We have isolated our computer systems for security.”

British WPP informed on its Twitter account that “IT systems in several WPP companies have been affected by a suspected cyber attack. We are taking appropriate measures & will update asap.”
