Various big multinational business groups were victims of a cyber attack coordinated in Western Europe, reported the affected companies.

The attack, which started against companies and public services in Ukraine and Russia , moved to the west where it harmed, among others, the Danish shipping company Maersk , the British advertising agency WPP and the French construction materials company Saint Gobain .

“Most of our IT systems were disrupted due to a virus attack. We are evaluating the situation, for our top priority is the security of our operations,” said to AFP Maersk's spokesperson, Concepción Boo Arias .

For its part, Saint Gobain confirmed to AFP: “we were struck by a cyber attack. We have isolated our computer systems for security.”

British WPP informed on its Twitter account that “IT systems in several WPP companies have been affected by a suspected cyber attack. We are taking appropriate measures & will update asap.”
