President Enrique Peña Nieto met with president Barack Obama for the first time after the president-elect’s win last November 8th.

Both leaders sat next to each other during the work session in the Summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) this afternoon in Lima, Peru.

President Peña Nieto asserted that president Obama has been “a faithful friend” for the Mexican people, as well as “committed” partner in the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the U.S.

President Peña and president Obama agreed to continue taking measures aimed at the consolidation of the relationship between their countries, as well as to institutionalize the cooperation mechanisms that have been created with bipartisan support from the U.S.
