Marines from the Ministry of the Navy in Mexico seized around 1,760 pounds of cocaine near the coastline of southern Chiapas.

The marines detected a small boat with people on board, who proceeded to dump a series of packages to the sea when they realized that they had been detected by air, some 160 miles west of Puerto Chiapas.

The sailors were able to escape, but the marines retrieved 24 packages of cocaine, for a total weight of 1,760 pounds.

According to the Navy, the packages were taken to Puerto Chiapas in order to be presented to the Office of the Attorney General in the city of Tapachula.
