Lucila Garfias, congresswoman of the New Alliance Party, said that 796,000 men are single parents in Mexico, compared to five million women.

Out of the 796,000 single fathers, 259,000 are divorced or separated, 42,000 were abandoned and 495,000 are widowers.

She added that due to the increasing number of single parents in the country, it is necessary to design comprehensive support programs.

"Just like women who act as heads of households, the fathers who raise their children alone face inflexible working hours or are denied permits to attend school meetings or doctor appointments," Garfias explained.
