Top officials are called to testify for El Chapo's escape

Ministry of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong; Attorney General of Mexico, Arely Gómez and Commissioner of National Security, Monte Alejandro Rubido were called to testify by the Congress' Bicameral Commission on National Security in connection with the escape of drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera.

The officials are expected to attend the Chamber of Deputies on Thursday.

The Attorney General's Office said that 49 people have already testified, among them prison director Valentín Cárdenas, his aides and prison staff.

Two attorneys for Joaquín Guzmán were also presented to the State Prosecuting Office.

Also, the owner of the piece of land with an abandoned house allegedly used for the escape, Calixto Estrada Castillo, was also taken to the SEIDO to be interrogated.
