The Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) wants to get the authorities to invalidate the results of the elections for mayor in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos, where former soccer star Cuauhtémoc Blanco seems to have achieved the victory for the Social Democratic Party.

Sadot Sánchez Carreño, legal secretary of the PRI, said that the party accused the local and municipal electoral authorities or irregularities in the elections of June 7.

The PRI also accuses the governor of Morelos, Graco Ramírez, from the leftist Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), of intervening in the elections in the state capital.

"We cannot rule out the possibility that the government of the state itself and its head deliberately intervened in the commission of these crimes," expressed Sánchez Carreño at a press conference.

According to a press release, Ramírez imposed Blanco as mayor of Cuernavaca because he can be easily manipulated "and therefore, someone through whom the PRD governor could maintain power, even after 2018, when the governorship of the state will be renewed".
