Mexican dies after crash between boat and CBP vessel in U.S.

The crash occurred early Thursday in Encinitas, California.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed that a Mexican woman died after a crash between a boat and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) vessel early Thursday in Encinitas, California.

CBP officials with the agency's Office of Air and Marine spotted the boat off the coast of Encinitas and believed it was filled with 20 people being smuggled into the United States. 

The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection confirmed the Mexican nationality of the 20 people.  

The Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego announced that it will provide the necessary medical care and consular assistance.
