The friendliness and spontaneity of Mexican actress Salma Hayek shone today at Cannes Film Festival, where she took a selfie with reporters despite the recommendation of the organizers of not doing so.

"I am very proud of my roots because they make me what I am," said Hayek, who lives in Paris with her husband, French businessman Francois-Henri Pinault, and her daughter Valentina.

With a smile, she added that she would be happy to play the role of a man.

Dressed in a tight black dress with large red flowers, Hayek talked about "Il racconto dei racconti", a movie directed by Matteo Garrone based on the classic stories of the Neapolitan writer Giambattista Basile in which she plays the role of a queen willing to do any sacrifice to have a child and protect him.

Vincent Cassel, Toby Jones, John C. Reilly and Bebe Cave are also part of the cast.

She said that it was a complex and difficult project because Garrone never seemed satisfied with the scenes.

"I did not wear a dress that weighed less than 30 kilos" in the movie, Hayek said about the designs of Massimo Cantini Parrini.

She added that shooting some scenes was difficult because moving from one set to the next one took her up to 45 minutes due to the weight of her clothes. In one of the scenes the queen chases her son through a maze in the garden dragging a dramatic and voluminous red dress.

"I was exhausted," Hayek explained.
